Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee takes up Dalit issue; blames govt

V M Sudheeran demanded that the false case charged against them should be withdrawn and the police men responsible should be booked.

Thiruvananthapuram: The KPCC will hold a ‘people’s durbar’ at Martyr's Square at Palayam from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on August 3 in protest against the atrocities meted out to two dalit sisters, Akhila and Anjana, who were locked up as remand prisoners in Kannur women’s jail on the charge of attacking CPM workers last month. Akhila's 18-month- old kid, Ardra, was also in jail along with the sisters.

KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran said that there was human rights violation under the LDF government and alleged that the government had denied justice to the sisters. He demanded that the false case charged against them should be withdrawn and the police men responsible should be booked.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had given scant regard to the request of the Congress and was spreading false allegations against them, he said. Hence, the KPCC leadership had decided to garner people’s support against the government, he added.
