LDF aims to cash in on Karnataka imbroglio

The idea is to convince the voters about the serious threat to country's democracy.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the ruling LDF, the apex court judgement on Karnataka could not have come at a better time. With just ten days left for the Chenganur bypoll, the LDF has decided to extensively campaign on the issue to expose BJP's attempts to derail the democratic process and usurp power through horse trading. The LDF workers will be moving from house to house during the next 10 days to approach each and every voter. They will explain about the developments taking place in Karnataka and the manner in which governor Vajubhai Vala acted like an RSS agent.

According to LDF election managers, the front plans to hold street corner meetings focusing mainly on the anti democratic approach of the Modi led BJP government at the Centre during this entire episode. The idea is to convince the voters about the serious threat that country's democratic polity faces from the BJP-RSS combine and why it was important to defeat them. The CPM believes that irrespective of the outcome of the trust vote in Karnataka assembly on Saturday, the campaign will continue in full steam. If the JDS-Congress manages to prove its majority on the floor of the house the LDF will try to project it as a victory of the secular parties and not just that of Congress.

In the event of B.S. Yeddurappa managing to win the trust vote, the LDF would scale up its attack on the BJP and expose the horse trading to overturn peoples' mandate. Apart from attacking the BJP, the LDF also plans to target the Congress on two counts. The CPM leaders have already unleashed a campaign that Congress is not capable of taking on the BJP. The party is not confident of keeping its flock together which shows the bankruptcy of the party and how vulnerable its MLAs are to allurements.
