Dasoju hits out at Centre, TS on Covid
HYDERABAD: Accusing the Centre and the state government of cheating people with regard to Covid-19 deaths in violation of World Health Organisation (WHO) norms, AICC spokesperson Sravan Dasoju on Monday said that the WHO report that Covid deaths in India were around 40 lakh was a slap on the face of the two governments.
The Centre has colluded with various state governments in suppressing factual data of Covid-19 deaths.
For the last two years, the Congress has been demanding the exact toll, he said.
Rather than giving the actual figures, they have attempted to suppress the numbers just to cover up their failure in creating adequate health infrastructure, Sravan alleged.
In Telangana state, while more than one lakh people had succumbed to the Covid-19 pandemic, the state government reported that the actual number of Covid-19 deaths was around 4,100.
Lakhs of people died due to the non-availability of beds, oxygen and life-saving drugs, he said.
“In the absence of a positive response to my representations, I was compelled to go to the High Court seeking directions for appointing an apex death audit committee. The case is pending and the state government is going all out to mislead not only the people but also the High Court,” he said.
