Hyderabad: The Emigrants Welfare Forum has appealed for the establishment of a Telangana Gulf Workers Welfare Board (Gulf Board) with a budget of Rs 500 crore to benefit people from the state working in more than 18 countries.

The Forum’s Bheem Reddy Mandha said that despite allocating Rs 100 crore in March 2018, the funds were not spent.

While presenting the Budget, finance minister T. Harish Rao said the government had decided to put in place an administrative arrangement on the lines of Kerala for the welfare of workers who had gone to the Gulf countries for livelihood.

“Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar had visited Kerala and submitted a report to the government. However, the government is now claiming that they will initiate measures after examining reports. It is a simple budget allocation that they have to do to make sure the family of the deceased gets ex gratia, pension etc. It’s a puzzle why they are not taking this into serious consideration,” said Bheem Reddy said.
