Hyderabad: Six candidates filed their nomination papers on Monday, the first day, for the April 11 Lok Sabha elections. Among them was Mr B. Vinod Kumar at Karimnagar, the only ruling party candidate nominated so far.
The others who filed their nomination papers from major parties were Congress candidate Ramesh Rathod (Adilabad), MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi (Hyderabad).
At Peddapalli, nomination papers were filed by Koyyada Swamy (BJP) and T. Raj Prakash (India Praja Bandhu Party). For the Warangal Lok Sabha constituency, Barigalla Shiva (BSP) filed his papers.
Earlier, the Election Commission issued the election notification on Monday for 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana state.
Candidates have only four days to file their nomination papers, with the last day being March 25. Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said the Election Commission had declared holidays on March 21 for Holi, and March 23 was a second Saturday and March 24, Sunday. Nominations would not be accepted on these days.
That means candidates can file their papers only on March 19, 20, 22 and 25.
Mr Kumar said election officials would take serious action over violation of the election code.
He said flexies and banners would not be allowed at party meetings if permission was not taken for their use from election officials.
He said school students should not be drafted for the poll campaign.
