THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held an hour long meeting with CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan at the party state headquarters AKG Centre in the wake of the brutal murder of two youth Congress activists in Kasargod.

Coming as it is in the midst of LDF’s southern and northern jathas,  the gruesome murders have pushed the CPM on the defensive. The murder took place on a day when the northern jatha led by Kanam Rajendran was to cover Assembly constituencies in Kasargod Lok Sabha segment.

The Chief Minister is understood to have expressed his deep displeasure over the manner in which the murders took place in Kasargod. He told the party state secretary to take all possible steps to rein in such unruly and violent cadres.

Pinarayi is upset over the brutal murders as the incident could adversely affect the LDF Government which is set to celebrate its third anniversary.  The CPM believes that the opponents could use the incident to mount a campaign against the LDF.

The party leadership wants the police to immediately nab the culprits to send out a clear message that CPM and its government would not tolerate such elements.

The northern and southern Jathas led by CPM and CPI state secretaries Kodiyeri Balakris-hnan and Kanam Rajendran respectively were suspended for the day in the wake of twin murders. The jatha will resume from Tuesday. However, the places that were left out today would be covered later.
