The government should not acquire any more land from farmers for private companies before using up the existing land bank.
The Congress initially thought of fielding a Hindu leader K. Sivadasan Nair, former Aranmula MLA, but after second thoughts it has decided to put up a Christian.
Hyderabad: Congress leader M. Kodanda Reddy has demanded the government not grab lands for the benefit of the private companies. He said that the government has more than 2.5 lakh acres of land bank that was acquired in the names of various development activities.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Mr Kodanda Reddy said, “A land bank of 2.5 lakh acres is still lying with the Telangana state government. The government should not acquire any more land from farmers for private companies before using up the existing land bank.
The government has done land acquisition for about 355 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) out of which 220 are partially being used and the remaining lands are not being used.”
