Telangana: Parties protest MLA poaching

Congress moved an adjournment motion over the issue but the Speaker disallowed it.

Hyderabad: The TS Legislative Assembly was well and truly rocked by protests over defection of Opposition MLAs into the ruling TRS on Saturday. Nine Congress and two TD MLAs were suspended for a day after they stormed into the Well of the House demanding a debate over defections and disqualification of the defectors.

Congress moved an adjournment motion over the issue but the Speaker disallowed it. The TD, which has been hit the hardest by the defections, too extended support to the adjournment motion. As many as 12 of its MLAs have crossed over to the TRS.

As soon as the House convened on Day-2, Congress and TD MLAs stormed the podium protesting against the large-scale defections into TRS. Repeated requests by Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary to agitating members to resume their seats proved futile. Legislative Affairs minister T. Harish Rao then moved the resolution for suspension of the MLAs.

The suspended MLAs include J. Geetha Reddy, D.K. Aruna, G. Chinna Reddy, T. Jeevan Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka T. Rammohan Reddy (Congress) A. Revanth Reddy and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah (TD).
