Oommen Chandy backers get restive

Similarly Kasaragod is also known for the I' camps superiority which went in favour of A' group led by Chandy.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress supporters loyal to former chief minister Oommen Chandy feel that his actions are turning out to be aggressive and opine it is most unwarranted. Mr Chandy was hostile to Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala’s ‘I’ group for walking away eight DCC presidents’ posts against Mr Chandy’s three seats. When a large section of Congress supporters were happy with the appointment of DCC presidents which have come under merit, the action of Mr Chandy has not gone down well.

On Friday, Mr Chennithala had said at a press meet at Canton-tment House that he too has got complaints against the AICC leadership over the DCC presidents appointments. Congress leaders believe that Mr Chennithala made such a comment publicly to appease the Chandy camp. However, leaders feel that it has only antagonised Chandy further. But the highlight of the issue is that ordinary party workers are peeved over Mr Chandy for taking a ‘negative’ stand when the AICC leadership gave importance to merit.

“The workers feel that Mr Chandy ensured that his decisions were approved by the party high command when he was the Chief Minister. So how can he still insist that things happen as per his dictum? There was widespread dissent against the ‘A’ group on social networking sites as they were ridiculing the merit list of DCC chiefs,” said a KPCC general secretary to DC.

However, Chennithala’s ‘I’ camp was trying to convey the message that they have not received those districts where they have a prominence. In fact, when Mr Chennithala camp recommended KPCC general secretary T. Saratchandra Prasad’s name for DCC chief in Thiruvananth-apuram, KPCC secretary Neyyatinkara Sanal walked away with the post. Though the latter belonged to the ‘I’ camp, his name was not recommended by the ‘I’ camp.

Similarly Kasaragod is also known for the ‘I’ camps superiority which went in favour of ‘A’ group led by Chandy. Chandy’s dissent has also prompted the KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran to postpone the high power Political Affairs Committee meeting as well. KPCC vice president M. M. Hassan also came down heavily against the newly appointed list of DCC presidents.
