Thol Thirumavalavan hints at PWF boycotting Nov. bypolls
Chennai: VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Monday hinted at People’s Welfare Front not contesting the bypolls for four Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to be held on November 19.
However, he said that the final decision on strategy for the polls would be taken at the meeting for leaders of four parties – MDMK, VCK, CPI (M) and CPI in a couple of days.
The ECI countermanded the elections in Thanjavur and Aravakurichi a few weeks before the May 16 assembly polls in the wake of corrupt practices by political parties. In Tiruparankundram, AIADMK candidate S M Seenivel, who won from the constituency, died even before he took oath as MLA.
Mostly the PWF would not contest the November 19 elections, Mr Thirumavalavan said, adding that in three seats in Tamil Nadu, MDMK and CPI contested in the Aravakurichi and Thiruparankundram constituencies while DMDK in Thanjavur seat. “DMDK is no long in our alliance,” he said. “Leaders of the four parties would decide on the question of whether to contest the elections or not. If not, we will also decide on whom to support,” he told DC. He added that the by polls are generally being dominated by the ruling party which enjoys the support of the official machinery.
