HYDERABAD: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday said that given that Razakars are now gone, it was time to drive away children of Godse, at a Tiranga Rally organised as part of the Integration Day event at Masab Tank Hockey Ground.
Terming the era of Nizam rule in Hyderabad state a “suffocating time” when citizens had no basic rights “like liberty, freedom or equality”, he said it was Abid Hassan, Subhas Chandra Bose’s aide from Hyderabad, who coined the term ‘Jai Hind’.
Recollecting the role of Muslims in the freedom struggle and against the Nizam rule, he said, “Maulvi Allauddin, at Macca Masjid, after the namaz, along with the congregation, took out a procession till Koti Women’s College in protest against the British and the Nizam. He called all Muslims to take part in the agitation against the British and the Nizam.”
Saying that Razakars went to Pakistan and those who were faithful stayed back in India, Owaisi took aim at right-wing organisations for failing to contribute in any sphere of the freedom struggle.
He said, “When you go back to the history of Hyderabad, you will never find the name of the RSS, Jan Sangh or the Sangh Pariwar, none of whom took part in any of the freedom struggles; or even the BJP, which came from them, much later. Now these parties question us on what basis the AIMIM is celebrating this Liberation Day or National Integration Day.”
Making a pun on the BJP using the name of its MP Bandi Sanjay, Owaisi said: “BJP’s ‘bandi (vehicle)’ got punctured. Amit Shah came to Hyderabad to spread false messages about the Liberation Day.”
Discussing the upcoming polls, Owaisi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot go for combined polls claiming “he cannot do anything combine, he is a separate Prime Minister”.
Referring to the MIM’s friendly relation with the BRS indirectly, he appealed to the public to strongly support the party for progress. “Wherever AIMIM candidates are planted, you make sure they win,” he said, claiming political circles were intrigued about which seats MIM candidates would contest.
The MIM’s Tiranga Rally was joined by thousands of supporters, with many in bikes, hoisting the Indian Flag, taking part in the march from Dargah Yousufain at Nampally, passing through Bazaar Ghat and St Ann’s School, to the Masab Tank Hockey Ground.
At the public meeting at the hockey ground, Owaisi appealed to the public not to support the BJP or Congress. “Darussalam belongs to you people; it has a medical college and an engineering college, which is for minorities and Dalits.”
He said, “Now that elections are coming, many leaders will seek your vote. BJP and Congress will be mud-slinging on MIM, and these are the same people who cannot digest MIM’s welfare for the downtrodden.”
