ADILABAD: BJP leader Etala Rajendar received good response from the public when he appeared on the dais at the party’s public meeting in Nirmal on Friday.
The six-time legislator said that BJP would win the Huzurabad seat in the byelection despite Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s ‘by hook or crook’ politics and splurging money to attract the electorate. The former finance minister alleged that Rao had cheated the people of Telangana by refusing to observe September17 as Telangana Liberation Day officially.
Meanwhile, the meeting’s star attraction, Union home minister Amit Shah, boosted Rajendar’s morale by extending his support. He said that Rajendar had joined the BJP since there was no scope for him in the TRS, which was a family-run party without any respect for democracy. He announced that the party would rally behind Rajendar, the BJP nominee, and ensure his victory in Huzurabad.
Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao urged Shah to instruct the state government to issue pattas to the podu lands that were being cultivated by adivasis for generations together and also sanction an airport to Adilabad. He sought funds for taking up developmental activities in the Maoist-affected areas in Nirmal and Adilabad districts. He thanked the sanction of funds for development works in Maoist-hit areas in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. Dubbaka MLA Raghu Nandan Rao, Chandrasekhar, Rama Devi and Ramesh Rathod also addressed the gathering.
Meanwhile, the venue reverberated with traditional drumbeats of adivasis, who also rendered Gussadi dance sporting peacock feathers. Shah wore a Gussadi topi that was offered by Bapurao.
Taking advantage of the Union minister’s presence, Thudum Debba leaders submitted a memorandum to Shah appealing him to take steps for removal of lambadas from the ST list....
