Karimnagar: BJP leader Etala Rajendar was a minister for seven years but did not take up developmental works in Huzurabad constituency which had elected him, alleged minister Gangula Kamalakar on Saturday.

Kamalakar said that as soon as the issue of poor condition of roads in Huzurabad constituency was taken to the notice of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, he immediately sanctioned `35 crore, of which Rs 25 crore had been spent for construction of drains and laying of roads and Rs 10 crore on laying pipelines.

The CM had also sanctioned Rs 15 crore to complete pending works along with the repairing around 100 more roads, he informed. Kamalakar was speaking after checking developmental works here in Huzurabad of Karimnagar district.

The Huzurabad-Bornapally road was just 750 metres long but not properly laid and was only six to nine metres wide and too narrow for setting up central lighting. “Why did Rajendar neglect this road,” Kamalakar said.

The minister said the government had decided to develop the Huzurabad-Bornapally road with an investment of Rs 6 crore. It would be upgraded along with construction of footpaths. All pending and developmental works in Huzurabad will be completed within one month, he said.

In the past, neither the state nor the central government ever released funds directly to either municipalities or to the local bodies. But after the formation of the Telangana state, the TRS government not only released the funds directly to the municipalities but took up several developmental works in local bodies, he informed.

SC Corporation chairman Banda Srinivas, Karimnagar Mayor Sunil Rao, municipal chairperson Gande Radhika, vice-chairperson Kolipaka Nirmala, municipal commissioner Venkanna and councilors were among those who were present along with others.
