HD Kumaraswamy wants JD(S) to form an alliance with Congress in BBMP
Bengaluru: While party meetings continue at BJP and Congress offices, it seems like JD(S) is having the last laugh even while demanding for the mayor’s post. According to sources in the JD(S), not only is the party supremo H.D Deve Gowda, who was always been in the favour of the alliance, wants to extend his support to Congress, but even JD(S) state president H.D Kumaraswamy is now willing to form an alliance with Congress in the BBMP.
Although, JD (S) had expressed the stand that it would extend support to the party that offers them the mayor’s post, it is very unlikely that it will join hands with the BJP, sources maintained.
A party source maintained, “Both Congress and JD(S) leaders have maintained that the parties are secular and their interests towards working for people have been similar. In a bid to maintain its ‘secular’ image, the JD(S) will try to strike a deal with the Congress and will avoid joining hands with the BJP.”
The source maintained that while senior leaders Mr Deve Gowda and Zameer Ahmed have openly expressed their interest to join hands with Congress, Mr Kumaraswamy too has now joined them.
“In the recent meeting, Mr Kumaraswamy discussed the prospect of forming the alliance and who should be elected to the mayor’s post. Though no name was confirmed, he is now in support of the alliance,” the source added.
