DMK to move people's court against eviction

Following a direction from party leader Karunanidhi, the DMK would hold public meetings under the topic Democracy suffering in Assembly'.

Chennai: The DMK on Wednesday announced that it would hold public meetings throughout the state against the eviction and suspension of its members from the Assembly and the first of the meetings would be held on August 22 at North Chennai.

DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin, deputy floor leader K. Duraimurugan and other leaders would take part in the meeting. It would be held on the day when Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa would reply to the demand for grants to the home department in the Assembly.

After the DMK MLAs were evicted and suspended for one week, the members held a meeting to discuss the next course of action at the party headquarters. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Stalin said the eviction and suspension had been planned by the AIADMK. Following a direction from party leader Karunanidhi, the DMK would hold public meetings under the topic “Democracy suffering in Assembly”.
