No permission for Kapus' cycle yatra: Nimmakayala Chinarajappa

He made it clear that those who are inciting Kapus do not have the welfare of community on their mind.

Kakinada: Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, who is also the Home Minister, made it clear that permission would not be given to the cycle yatra planned by Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham on July 26. He advised the youth not to fall into the “trap” of Mr Padmanabham.

Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, he said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had given a categorical assurance to Kapus that their community would be given reservation and that it would be implemented, after completing the statutory processes.

He said the TD government has set up the Kapu Corporation for the welfare of the community and appointed Justice Manjunathan Commi-ssion to enquire into providing reservations for the community.

After receiving the report from the Commission, reservations for Kapus would become a reality, he said.

No Chief Minister or party had provided reservations for Kapus, he said, and added that Mr Naidu was firm on fulfilling his promise before the elections.

Mr Chinnarajappa said the Kapu community should not trust the words of a disgruntled leader like Mr Padmanabham and take up agitation.

Agitation would only prove counter-productive, as it may lead to negative consequences.

He said that strict action would be taken if anybody indulged in violence in the name of the Kapu agitation.

He made it clear that those who are inciting Kapus do not have the welfare of community on their mind.

He said that the people of Kapu community should understand this and cautioned the youth not to take up any processions and other agitations for the cause of Kapus.

Meanwhile, the Kapu Joint Action Committee leaders, including its convener V.Y. Das and Akula Ramakrishna, told the reporters in Rajahmundry that they would take up the Cycle Yatra, irrespective of permission from the government, from Kirlampudi to Amaravati, under the leadership of Mr Padmanabham.

They said that if the police arrested them during the agitation, they were ready for it. “After being released from the jail, we would take up the agitation again.”
