Andhra Pradesh: BJP told not to oppose Covid care at temples
VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress has strongly hit out at BJP for its strong opposition to starting Corona centres in temples, and said all should cooperate with the government for the containment of Covid-19.
Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Mayor Kavati Sivanaga Manohar Naidu flayed senior BJP leader Kanna Lakshminarayana’s stance on the issue. He alleged that the BJP was trying to create differences among people of various faiths in the name of religion.
Naidu recalled that as many as 40 temples were demolished in Vijayawada during the regime of Telugu Desam government, but the then minister for endowments belonging to BJP and other saffron leaders including Lakshminarayana turned mute spectators to the attack on Hindu temples without any concern. He said the YSRC government led by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is reconstructing those 40 demolished temples, which show their respect towards Hindu temples.
The Mayor said that the government was starting Covid care centres at temples and ‘Satrams’ to treat temple priests and other staff working there. He further said that service to humans was service to god. He reminded them Corona centres had already been started at worship places of all faiths, the BJP was trying to cause differences among people by misleading them on the Corona centers issue. He demanded that Lakshminarayana and other BJP leaders shun politics and cooperate with the government towards containment of Covid-19 by offering services to priests and temples staff.
