No time to rest for BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan
He was not left alone as he was confronted with questions on the possibilities of a win in Vattiyoorkavu.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was by all means an enormous task that Kummanam Rajasekharan had taken up—to open an account in the state Assembly by winning the Vattiyoorkavu seat for himself and a few others for the party. From the day he accepted the challenge after the national leadership elevated him as the state president in December last, Kummanam had hardly a day’s rest.
Even after the polling on Monday, he was not left alone as he was confronted with questions on the possibilities of a win in Vattiyoorkavu. Though he alleged that there was cross-voting against the BJP in many seats, he hoped to come up trumps. During the campaign, Kummanam had to lead the party from the front as well as attend the rallies by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah.
Kummanam told DC that the increase in the polling percentage from 63.88 to 69.83 in Vattiyoorkavu within a gap of five years was a big achievement. “In the 2011 elections, the BJP candidate had polled only 13,494 votes in Vattiyoorkavu. I will have to gain 50,000 plus votes to romp home. Towards the last lap of the campaigning, K. Muraleedharan (Congress) and T. N. Seema (CPM) admitted that their main opponent is BJP,” said Kummanam.
He quipped that 140 mandalam presidents, 14 district presidents and secretaries had been calling him since morning apprising him of the BJP’s chances. He is busy scheduling meetings of core committee, NDA, district presidents, social media and many more at the BJP election committee office at PMG Junction.
He said the BJP had stuck to its allotted Rs 28 lakh in each constituency for campaign as stipulated by the Election Commission. The ECI officials had even taken the measurement of various posters erected by the BJP in the capital city, he said and added that weekly audits were completed systematically.
