Muslim League sure of UDF surge

K.P.A. Majeed clarifies that the League will never join hands with the Left to prevent a BJP surge in the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Muslim League is confident of a UDF victory despite the exit polls showing a wave in favour of the LDF. But it feels that NDA ally Bharat Dharma Jana Sena may make gains in the southern districts. Mr K. P. A Majeed, Muslim League general secretary, told DC that the League will never align with the Left to prevent a BJP surge.

The League leaders, who took stock of the situation a day after the polls, said the BDJS impact could not be gauged now though the strength of the BJP was clear.

“Already the BJP leadership has taken anticipatory bail by stating that cross-voting has happened in the seats where the BJP is strong. Only by knowing the vote share of the BDJS, we will know whether it will affect the prospects of the UDF or the LDF,” said Mr Majeed.

He ruled out any possibility of the IUML cosying up with the Left in future. Prior to the local bodies’ elections, there were speculations that a CPI leader had held talks with the Muslim League which was denied by leaders of both the parties.
