THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Election commission on Tuesday came out with a revised voter turnout of 77.35 percent showing an increase of 2.24 percent from the 2011 Assembly polls (75.11 percent). This is the second best poll percentage recorded in the state after 1987 when it was 80.54. The LDF came to power with 80 seats that time.
The votes would be counted on Thursday. When the polling ended at 6 p.m. on Monday, the c mission had projected the percentage at 74.12. The percentage for males is 76.33 and females 78.29. Kozhikode district recorded the highest percentage with 81.89 while Pathanamthitta recorded the lowest with 71.66. Cherthala constituency with 86.3 percent recorded the highest percentage and Thiruvananthapuram with 65.19 percent, the lowest.
The low voting percentage in Thiruananthapuram where there was a fierce triangular contest was a shocker to the three fronts. In the neighbouring Vattiyoorkavu, which also witnessed a triangular contest, the voting percentage was only 69.83.
Three other constituencies recorded less than 70 percent. They are Attingal with 69.38 percent, Poonjar (69.29) and Kaduthuruthi (69.39). All the five northern districts of Kasargod, Kannur, Waynad , Malappuram and Palakkad recorded above 75 percent polling, according to the statistics released by the election commission.
