Kerala Assembly Elections: Now, it's time to clean-up

Almost all the districts in Malabar started removing the flex boards on the roadside and are calling up recycling agencies.

KOZHIKODE: It seems that the CPM has taken up the call by PB member Pinarayi Vijayan to remove the flex boards soon after the election and recycle them properly. Almost all the districts in Malabar started removing the flex boards on the roadside and are calling up recycling agencies.

On May 15, Mr. Vijayan posted on his official Facebook page about the immediate need to recycle and reuse the flex boards used for election campaigning. In Kannur, the posters and boards were almost removed the day after the polls, said CPM district secretary P. Jayarajan.

“The flex waste is collected and kept in different areas after removing them. Once they are sorted according to measure and density, they will be sold to any recycling agency,” he said. In Kozhikode, the party workers will start removing the flex boards only after the counting is over on May 19.

“Now though the polling is over, the workers are still excited and busy. It would be better to start the cleansing work after the counting. Once the flex boards and sheets are collected, we are planning to sell them in bulk to some recycling units like ‘Niravu’ here,” said district secretary P. Mohanan.

Malappuram unit will also coordinate with the Kozhikode unit to recycle the waste, said district secretary T.P. Vasudevan. In Kochi, Thrikkakara UDF candidate P.T. Thomas removed his flex boards. Kochi mayor Ms. Soumini Jain and councellors accompanied him.
