DMK will not be cowed down by threats like I-T raids: MK Stalin

Stalin said the raids were an outcome of “fear of a damning defeat,” for BJP candidate Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan in Thoothukudi.

CHENNAI: Asserting that the DMK will not be cowed down by ‘threats’ in the form of I-T department raids, DMK president M. K. Stalin said the people will vote out the BJP government at the Centre.

“The Income Tax department searches in Thoothukudi (at his sister and party candidate Kanimozhi) is aimed at threatening the candidate and scare the party. But the DMK will not be cowed down by such threats. I hope people will not yield to the lure of money but vote out the BJP government at the Centre,” he said on Wednesday.

Stalin said the raids were an outcome of “fear of a damning defeat,” for BJP candidate Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan in Thoothukudi. He accused the Modi government of targeting opposition leaders by using agencies like the Income Tax department and Enforcement Directorate, and said the people of India will give a befitting reply to the BJP in the election.

“The Centre is targeting the opposition parties due to fear of defeat in the election,” Kanimozhi said and added that an “ attempt was made to cancel the election in Thoothukudi but they failed.”

On Tuesday the income tax sleuths along with election flying squad carried out raids at the residence of DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi at Thoothukudi but nothing was found during the searches at her residence.

The DMK found support former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and also Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being a fascist, for unleashing a reign of fear and trying to threaten parties opposed to him.
