TPCC gets a platform to protest in Dharna Chowk

Police picked them in batches and moved them to Narayanguda police station.

Hyderabad: State Congress leaders hit the streets on Monday protesting against the government’s decision to shift Dharna Chowk from Indira Park to the outskirts of the city. Party leaders, in batches suddenly reached the Ambedkar statue near Tank Bund to register their protest.

Among those who staged protests were TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Md. Ali Shabbir, TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, former MPs V. Hanumantha Rao and Anjan Kumar Yadav, former City Congress president Danam Nagender, NDMA former vice-chairman Marri Sasidhar Reddy, Congress legislators Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and S.A. Sampat Kumar reached the Ambedkar statue at different times from different directions to stage their protests.

Police picked them in batches and moved them to Narayanguda police station, where they were detained for some time before being released.

Speaking to newsmen at Tank Bund, Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy accused the TRS government of converting a democratic Telangana state into a state under dictatorship wherein democratic dissent was not being allowed.

He also accused the government of not taking up 2BHK housing scheme as promised as well as the much-publicised scheme to provide jobs to one lakh unemployed youth.
