Mysuru: Will give disgruntled JD(S) MLAs another chance, says HD Kumaraswamy

The party will take up a tour of 120 constituencies to begin with, says HDK.

Mysuru: Following the legislators’ meeting on Saturday, Janata Dal (Secular) legislators led by party state president Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy paid obeisance to Goddess Chamundeswari atop Chamundi hills, here on Sunday morning.

“The party will take up a tour of 120 constituencies to begin with, we are sure that we can surpass the money and power Congress and BJP have. They should shed the illusion that they can win only with money and power,” Mr Kumaraswamy told mediapersons on Sunday.

He said, “Like other states, people in Karnataka are inclined towards regional parties, hence we are confident that JDS has a good future. We are ready to co-operate if other regional parties are interested in joining hands with JD(S). We will plan our strategies to fight against the state government, after reviewing the measures taken to handle the drought,” Mr Kumaraswamy said.

He said, “Since we enjoy a good relationship with Mysuru, we held the legislators’ meeting here. The meeting was successful. As many as 30 MLAs and nine MLCs participated in the meeting. Congressmen may have prevented Iqbal Ansari friom participating while Zameer Ahmed Khan, Chaluvanarayanaswamy and Akhanda Srinivasmurthy deliberately did not participate. We will give them yet another chance before initiating disciplinary action against the rebels. We will personally meet them all and talk to them next week,” Mr Kumaraswamy said.

“The state is facing a severe drought. People in north Karnataka are getting water only once in fifteen days. The water levels in reservoirs have been depleted. Even though the government was aware of this situation, they failed to take precautionary measures. They even failed in persuading the central government to grant adequate funds to handle the drought. Rs 50 lakh released to each district for tackling the drinking water crisis is inadequate. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has failed to respond to problems of people of the state,” Mr Kumaraswamy said.

To another question, he said, “I do not have any objection to Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa touring drought hit areas in a luxury car. My only concern is that he should not have taken the car from a sugarcane factory owner who has not cleared the arrears of sugar cane growers.” On his visit to Chamundeswari temple he said, “We prayed for copious rains, so that the problems faced by people of the state are solved.”
