Telangana Budget: No allocation for GHMC, HMDA
Hyderabad: Urban local bodies (ULBs) have got a decent share in Budget 2021-22. The municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) department was granted Rs 15,030 crore for 141 urban local bodies and 13 municipal corporations.
The Khammam Municipal Corporation got an allocation of Rs 150 crore and the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Rs 250 crore, both heading for the polls.
As for Hyderabad, Rs 3,175 crore was allocated while Rs 1,000 crore has been proposed for Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd, Rs 250 crore for the free drinking water supply scheme of 20 kilolitres in the GHMC area, Rs 250 crore for providing drinking water to newly-formed colonies within the Outer Ring Road limits, Rs 725 crore for the Sunkesula project to bring Krishna water to the city, Rs 750 crore for land acquisition for the regional ring road (RRR) and Rs 200 crore for the restoration of the Musi river and for beautification of the Musi riverfront.
The funds allocation for Musi riverfront development has been reduced to Rs 200 crore from Rs 10,000 crore.
This apart, the construction of the Secretariat has been allocated Rs 610 crore. To promote and expand the IT sector, the government had prepared plans for expansion of IT parks at Kompally, Kollapur, Shamshabad, Uppal and Pocharam in Hyderabad, for which an amount of Rs 360 crore was proposed.
The RRR project is being planned beyond the existing ORR and this is expected to improve connectivity between Sangareddy, Narsapur, Toopran, Gajwel, Jagdevpur, Bhongir, Choutuppal, Ibrahimpatnam, Chevella and Shankarapalli. The total cost of the project is Rs 13,000 crore. The second phase of the project will cover 182 km, with the government footing 50 per cent of the project cost.
The HMRL funds could be utilised for the airport connectivity under Phase II in which the 31-km first line will connect Raidurg station with the Shamshabad airport via Nanakramguda. The second line will connect Miyapur to BHEL via Mehdipatnam and Hafeezpet.
Neither the GHMC nor the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) saw any funds allocation.
