Nanjil Sampath quits AMMK, slams TTV Dhinakaran

TTV Dhinakaran believes that he can run his party by insulting Anna and Dravidianism.

CHENNAI: Nanjil Sampath, who is an firebrand speaker and familiar face on TV debates and ardent supporter of R K Nagar legislator T.T.V. Dhinakaran, quit the AMMK on Saturday and announced his retirement from politics.

Hardly two days after Dhinakaran launched his own political outfit Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazhagam (AMMK) in Madurai, Nanjil Sampath announced his decision to depart from Dhinakaran's camp saying "I do not want to be in a party that does not have Anna and Dravidianism."

"TTV Dhinakaran believes that he can run his party by insulting Anna and Dravidianism. My wishes to the success of his belief. I am no longer a part of that. I am not in politics. I am not in any party. I am not going to contest this. I am not going to ask why he did this. He's a leader I respected and celebrated. He himself has committed a murder in broad daylight. I cannot bear this injustice. I don't have the strength to oppose this. Therefore, I will no longer be a part of politics. Henceforth, you can see me in Tamil literary forum and literary meets," Mr. Sampath, who had first been appointed as the deputy propaganda secretary of AIADMK by party supremo J. Jayalalithaa, said, on Saturday.

Flaying Dhinakaran for christening his party as AMMK, he said, "I don't agree with the name Amma Mukkal Munnetra Kazhagam. I cannot function without the words Anna and Dravidianism," Mr. Sampath told a private TV news channel in his hometown Manakkavilai in Kanyakumari district. The former AIADMK orator said he did not want to be part of the "blunder."

Mr. Sampath joined the AIADMK in 2012, though he started out his political career in the DMK, and walked out with Vaiko in 1993 when the latter started the MDMK. In January last year, he quit politics only to be back in praise of now jailed V. K. Sasikala.
