Privilege notice to 7 DMK MLAs
Chennai: The Privileges Committee of the Tamil Nadu Assembly has served notices on 7 DMK MLAs for creating ruckus on the floor of the House during the trust vote sought by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami on February 18.
The notices have been sent to Ku. Ka. Selvam (Thousand Lights), K S Ravichandran (Egmore), Suresh Rajan (Kanniyakumari), S Ambedkar Kumar (Vandavasi), K Karthikeyan (Rishivandiyam), K S Masthan (Gingee) and P Murugan (Vepanahalli) and the MLAs have been asked to reply by March 23.
Sources said the privilege notices were sent to the MLAs based on a notice given by AIADMK MLA from Perambur P. Vetrivel, who alleged that the action by the legislators lowered the dignity of the House and sought action against them.
“The Privileges Committee went into the complaint by Mr Vetrivel and concluded that it is a fit case. In this regard, notices have been issued to all 7 MLAs who were mentioned in the complaint,” the sources said.
Unruly scenes were witnessed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on February 18 after DMK MLAs began protesting inside the House following rejection of their demand by Speaker P. Dhanapal for secret voting to determine the majority of Palanisami.
