CBI files fresh custody petition in Kathiroor Manoj muder case

CBI was exploring the possibility of constituting an expert medical board of its own to examine the CPM leader.

Kozhikode: CBI withdrew its earlier petition submitted to the Additional Sessions Court, Thalassery, demanding custody of CPM leader P. Jayarajan for interrogation in the Kathiroor Manoj murder case due to delay in the medical report on his physical fitness Wednesday morning.

The Central probe agency moved a fresh petition in the afternoon, which the court would consider on Thursday. The preliminary medical report of the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (KMCH) medical board reportedly recommended a 48-hour observation as he had complained of chest pain.

Mr Jayarajan, who admitted to the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital (PMCH) immediately after his judicial remand on February 12, was shifted to KMCH on Monday. He was undergoing treatment for cardiac ailments at PMCH earlier.

In the morning when the court considered the plea, the CBI counsel backtracked on the earlier demand saying that it was withdrawing the petition for custody as the medical report from the KMCH did not reach the court.

The CBI sought his custody for three days as he was refusing to cooperate with the interrogation earlier.

Meanwhile, KMCH principal Dr P.V. Narayanan told DC that the cardiology department handed over a report in a sealed cover which he had submitted to the court by noon. He refused to reveal its content.

Meanwhile, sources said that CBI was exploring the possibility of constituting an expert medical board of its own to examine the CPM leader.
