Oppn to Governor's inspection is meaningless: BJP
Chennai: Asserting that the opposition parties’ assumption that Tamil Nadu will forfeit its rights if Governor Banwarilal Purohit conducts review meetings is “meaningless,” the BJP on Saturday claimed that the Governor’s proactive role would only ensure more development for the State.
Lashing out at the DMK and other parties that have been criticising Mr Purohit for his reviews, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said opposition to the Governor’s review meeting is meaningless.
“Stalin (DMK working president) can meet the Governor and seek action. But when the Governor meets the officials to expedite the work, Stalin says its wrong. How can this be unacceptable,” she said.
Mr Banwarilal’s initiatives, Dr Tamilisai contended, would ensure additional strength to the administration and this would augur well for TN's development. “As far as I am concerned, the review meetings are well within his purview, so why oppose,” she asked.
The BJP president, who earlier in the day, called on Tamil film music director and lyricist Gangai Amaran at the latter’s residence here, said the Congress under its new president Rahul Gandhi would only weaken further.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Gangai Amaran said he could not contest the R. K. Nagar byelection (on the BJP ticket) this time due to his health conditions. He alleged that the situation in the Assembly constituency facing bypoll on Dec.21 has not changed as the distribution of money for votes continue to dominate the poll scenario. BJP candidate Karu Nagarajan, too, accompanied Dr Tamilisai in calling on the famed director.
