Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has alleged that the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has chosen to ignore the appointments made in state public sector units by the former industries minister E P Jayarajan which were mired in corruption. Vigilance director Jacob Thomas who has been going around claiming that corrupt would be taken to task refused to act against Mr Jayarajan, Mr Chennithala said. “As per the rule, vigilance has to file a report within 42 days. However, it has been more than 62 days now and nothing is coming out."

The VACB had ordered a probe after the Mr Jayarajan was accused of making certain controversial appointments of relatives to key posts. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had ridiculed the Vigilance Bureau calling it a caged parrot when he was in the opposition, Mr Chennithala said. “However, the vigilance lay admitted in the intensive care unit ever since Mr Jayarajan has quit,” he said.
