Hyderabad: Criticial polling stations and auxiliary polling

Hyderabad: Out of the 4,119 polling stations in the 15 Assembly segments in Hyderabad district, 1,836 have been identified as critical for the November 30 Assembly polls. The number of such stations has increased by 133 from the 2018 elections with the electorate size increasing from 44,42,458 to 45,36,852.

Among the factors that lead to the listing as critical of instances of violence in the previous polls, voting of 75 per cent for one candidate, where polling percentage exceeding 90 per cent, as well as extremely low voting, besides the deletion of a large numbers of duplicate and dead voters.

An official from Hyderabad election authority said that they had been instructed not to identify the critical polling stations. “Revealing the names might discourage the electors and decrease the polling percentage,” he said.

To avoid untoward incidents at these polling stations, Central Armed Police Forces will be deployed and a special briefing will be held with the presiding officers (POs) of these stations, he further said. These precautionary measures are in addition to deploying a micro observer and live webcasting of polling stations.

  • With the number of electors, 1,550 electors will be allowed in each polling station. Generally, the number is limited to 1,500.
