3 MLAs allied to ruling party meet M Karunanidhi
Chennai: Three MLAs, who were elected on AIADMK ticket in the 2016 assembly polls, have been swinging like a pendulum ever since the ruling party was hit with rebellion a year ago jumping from one camp to another. And on Thursday, the trio were at the rival camp of DMK when they met ailing former chief minister M. Karunanidhi ostensibly to check on his health even as the 'star' (Karunas) who is one among them under a cloud.
Tamimum Ansari, Thaniarasu and Karuna - who contested the elections on Two Leaves symbol — met Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence here on Thursday evening and enquired about his health. The trio, who had put their weight behind rebel AIADMK leader T T V Dhinakaran after the rebellion by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, took pains to explain that there was "nothing political" in their meeting.
The meeting of the MLAs' came as Karunas was embroiled in a row after CCTV footage showed his friends bashing up a businessman at a popular pub in upscale MRC Nagar under his watch. "When we were introduced, Kalaignar (M Karunanidhi) smiled at us and he was attentive when we were talking to him. When it was conveyed to him that we were leaving, he raised his hand and we take it as blessing. Our visit was only to get to know about his health and nothing else," Tamimum Ansari told reporters.
