KTR take a jibe on BJP on Covid vaccine, appeals to weavers in Munugode to defeat BJP

KTR said Modi is the first Prime Minister to burden the weavers with heavy tax

Hyderabad: TRS working president and IT minister K.T. Rama Rao took a jibe at Union minister G. Kishan Reddy's reported claim at an election meeting in Munugode that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had discovered the Covid-19 vaccine.

Rama Rao tweeted, "Let us demand Nobel prize in Medicine/ Science to Modi Ji.

Apparently, Modi discovered the Covid Vaccine courageously. His cabinet colleagues are really bright I must accept; especially Kishan Reddy (sic)."
Rao's tweet was in response to TRS leader Manne Krishank's tweet who shared a video of Kishan Reddy purportedly saying Modi had invented the vaccine.

Rama Rao later posted yet another tweet: "Modi Ji deserves Nobel prize but in which category? Nobel for Medicine- discovering Covid Vaccine, Nobel for Economics- Demonetisation & Swiss Black Money Returns, Nobel for Peace- Stopping the Russia-Ukraine war for 6 hours, Nobel for Physics- Radar Theory (sic)."

Rama Rao held a teleconference with handloom weavers in Munugode constituency and listing out the harsh measures reportedly taken by BJP-led Centre against the sector.

He said Modi is the first Prime Minister to burden the weavers with heavy tax and scrapping insurance and welfare schemes meant for them.

This included dissolving the All India Handlooms Board, All India Handicrafts Board and scrapped the savings and insurance schemes for weavers. Besides, yarn subsidy to weavers was reduced from 40 to 15 per cent. Rao said that the GST on handlooms and textiles was increased from five to 12 per cent.
Rao detailed several progressive steps taken by the TRS government for the welfare of the weavers' community.

He said that though the Telangana government has sought assistance from the Centre for implementing welfare measures for weavers, there was no help. The Centre did not support the Institute of Handloom Technology and block-level handloom clusters.
