Hyderabad: The Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Hyderabad was placed on high alert as supporters of former chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu called for a car rally. The protesters had plans to enter from any of the 20 entry points of the ring road. The managing director of Hyderabad Growth Corridor alerted the Cyberabad police after coming across posts by Chandrababu Naidu, who urged his supporters to complete a full round of the 158-km ORR at a speed of 60 kmph.
High drama unfolded at several entry gates, notably at the newly inaugurated Narsinghi Interchange of ORR. The planned rally was scheduled from 1 pm to 5 pm. Cyberabad police deployed a heavy police presence near Khajaguda Circle and imposed restrictions, disallowing protests on the Outer Ring Road.
Suspicious vehicles were not permitted to proceed, leading to several arguments between protesting vehicle owners and the police. This resulted in traffic congestion on many highways.
Nevertheless, many protesters sneaked into the ORR, with several vehicles forming convoys. People stood out of sunroofs, shouting slogans in support of Naidu.
Meanwhile, Madhapur DCP Sandeep Kumar told Deccan Chronicle that they were not permitting protest rallies by software professionals in collaboration with TD leaders.
