If Swamy could sympathise with us why not BJP leaders: Parameshwar
Bengaluru: Lambasting BJP leaders, including state unit chief B. S. Yeddyurappa, for contending that PM Narendra Modi need not intervene to resolve the Cauvery water dispute, KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar on Friday wondered why they were inert when Dr Subramanian Swamy, a leader from Tamil Nadu, had sympathized with the people of the state and even suggested a solution to overcome shortage of water in the Cauvery basin.
He told reporters here: “I feel sad about BJP's approach to the Cauvery issue. Every other BJP leader, including Mr Yeddyurappa, is resorting to politicking about the Cauvery dispute. They are trying their best to defend Mr Modi. Instead, they should have risen to defend our people's interests.” Dr Parameshwar said CM Siddaramaiah and the ruling party were aware of the fact Mr Modi could not legally participate in a dialogue process but his predecessors had set a precedent of stepping in to find an amicable solution for inter-river water disputes or inter-state border disputes.
He said KPCC adopted a resolution that Mr Modi must intervene not only to resolve the cauvery dispute but also settle Mahadayi issue. The KPCC president said the state government had to release water to TN only to prove a point that Karnataka was not adamant when it comes to execution of court orders. “We are hoping that our decision to release water to TN has raised hopes of securing a better verdict when court hears the SLP which is listed for hearing on October 18. This is our main objective rather that sticking to non-compliance of the current orders," he added.
