TD complains to SEC about ward volunteers

Vijayawada: Opposition Telugu Desam on Wednesday lodged a complaint with State Election Commission (SEC) alleging that ward volunteers are openly campaigning for YSR Congress in elections of sarpanches and ward members.

Pointing to specific instances, TD politburo member Varla Ramaiah complained that volunteers are campaigning openly in Ward No.2 of Peapully village of Nandyal district in favour of the ruling party, which is in violation of the ECI guidelines and rules.

Ramaiah maintained that this is not a stray incident but is happening in all elections held under the supervision of SEC in Andhra Pradesh.

He further complained that for sarpanch position in Penta Srirampuram of Gantyada mandal within Vizianagaram district, village volunteers, VRA and outsourced employees are defying the rules and campaigning for YSRC. In Ward No. 2 of Lakkireddypalle panchayat in Annamayya district, ward volunteers, Anganwadi and Asha workers have been caught on a video campaigning for the ruling party candidates.

The TS leader maintained that this is nothing but failure of authorities in ensuring free and fair polls. He demanded that the SEC issue directives in this regard and take action against volunteers who are campaigning for YSRC.
