TRS to move SC against dubbing welfare schemes as \'freebies\'

Party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had instructed TRS leaders to approach legal experts to draft the affidavit

Hyderabad: The TRS is all set to move a plea in the Supreme Court stating that welfare schemes being implemented by state government should not be viewed as 'freebies'.

Sources said that party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had instructed TRS leaders to approach legal experts to draft the affidavit that will be filed in the apex court.

The party wants to seek Supreme Court permission to make TRS a respondent to the PIL filed by BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay to curb political parties from announcing 'freebies' to win elections, sources said.

The DMK in Tamil Nadu and AAP in Delhi have already approached the Supreme Court on this issue and TRS wants to follow suit.

The TRS leadership has bitterly opposed the statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi warning people against the ‘free revri (sweets) culture’ under which votes are collected by promising freebies and said this could be' very dangerous' for the development of the country.
