Bhadrachalam: Congress Legislature Party leader Bhatti Vikramarka said on Tuesday that the irrigation projects initiated during the TRS rule were damaged more due to the faulty designs and less because of natural calamities like floods.

“The state government has fears that such lacunae will be exposed before the public, following the visit of the CLP team and hence creating obstacles. The state government failed to complete a single irrigation project in its eight years of rule even though it spent money for the purpose," he said.

“Instead of commencing new projects, the TRS government should have completed the Indirasagar, Dummugudem-Rajivsagar, Kantalapalli, Sripada–Ellampalli and Pranahita-Chevella projects initiated by the previous Congress government,” Bhatti said.

He said the government’s failure to implement the irrigation projects in the state was glaring.

The CLP team was led by Bhatti Vikramarka, MLAs Sridhar Babu and Seethakka, MLC Jeevan Reddy and Congress leaders Balram Naik, Anvesh Reddy and Nageswara Rao to the submersion areas in Bhadrachalam.

Bhatti said that people of Telangana achieved their dream of a separate state in order to live with self-pride. But, the TRS has left the people in deprivation, they not even having a hut to hide during calamities like floods.

He said the government failed to save the people from the Godavari floods by not undertaking quick relief measures. The people of the inundated villages complained of not getting the state government’s promised financial assistance of `10,000, he said.

“What is the use of holding the diamond jubilee celebrations of Independence Day when the state and central governments failed to protect the lives of adivasis? Adivasis should be able to lead a happy life. The CLP team will meet President Droupadi Murmu to get back for TS the seven mandals that went to Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

The CLP leader said chief minister Chandrashekar Rao had not sanctioned the `100 crore he had promised for development of Bhadrachalam. The government must sanction the `100 crore as also the later offer of `1000 crore immediately, he said.
