THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Revenue Minister E Chandrashekharan has sought a detailed report from Alappuzha Collector in connection with allegations that Transport Minister Thomas Chandy that the resort owned by him had encroached Punnamada lake.

The minister told reporters that he had not received any report regarding encroachments yet. “We will look into the matter. We will examine and find out,” he said.

Chandrashekharan said action would be taken if there is any illegality.

“There has been no encroachment during the past 14 – 15 months,” he said pointing out that no such illegal activity had taken place in the area since he took over as minister.

“I think the allegations are prior to 15 months. Anyway we will examine,” he said. The minister said the lake might have been reclaimed earlier and it would examined how it had been done and when.

Meanwhile, transport minister Thomas Chandy denied allegations related to encroachment of land and reclaiming of lake. “There is no issue, absolutely no issue. We have not done anything illegal, not acquired even one cent of land unlawfully,” he said.

Chandy said after watching some reports in news channels a section of people got misled and levelled baseless allegations. “They will come back to me later,” he said hoping that the protest against him would die down soon.

It may b e recalled that the NCP youth wing had sought a detailed probe into the alleged use of tax payers money for the construction of a road leading to the private reports owned by the Minister in Alappuzha.

The youth wing had asked the party leadership to take action against Chandy. The young leaders alleged that resort had encroached into the Punnamada Lake.
