Congress demands financial aid to flood victims

Apart from crop damage compensation, Rs 1 lakh crop loan waiver should be given to the farmers in flood-affected areas, the CLP urged

HYDERABAD: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) demanded that the state government send survey teams to the fields to assess the flood damages in the state. Apart from crop damage compensation, Rs 1 lakh crop loan waiver should be given to the farmers in flood-affected areas, the CLP urged. A marathon meeting that lasted for three-and-a-half hours was conducted at the Central Court Hotel on Sunday chaired by CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government failed to tackle the Godavari flood situation in the state. It did not take precautionary steps or rehabilitation measures, he said.

Bhatti criticised that the TRS government utterly failed to rescue the flood victims as they were facing hardship in rehabilitation camps. He said survey teams should be sent to the agriculture fields to assess the crop damages and pay compensation to the victims. Earlier, victims of natural disasters got houses under Indira Awas Yojana scheme, now the government should provide them 2BHK houses, he said.

The CLP leader alleged that the TRS government increased the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme budget from Rs 35,000 crore to Rs 1.28 lakh crore. Ignoring the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella lift irrigation scheme, the TRS government took up the Kaleshwaram scheme, he said. “We discussed podu lands, AP Reorganisation Act promises, state government’s bankruptcy in financial matters and other political issues,” he said.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A. Revanth Reddy, AICC Telangana in-charge MP Manickam Tagore, MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, MLA D. Sridhar Babu, MLC T.
