BJP activist’s suicide sparks tension in Khammam

Party activists go on rampage; burn, tear flexis of minister Ajay Kumar, pelt stones at hospital

KHAMMAM: Tension prevailed in Khammam on Saturday when the body of Samineni Sai Ganesh, who attempted suicide in Three Town due to alleged police harassment on Friday, was brought to district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.

Sai Ganesh, who consumed pesticide on the premises of Three Town police station on Friday died on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.
On hearing the news of Sai Ganesh’s death, BJP activists went on rampage and burnt a flexi of minister for transport P. Ajay Kumar at Mamata Hospital Road and tore flexis at ZP centre, old bus stand and other places on Wyra Road. A BJP activist Velpula Chandrasekhar was beaten by TRS activists at Mamata Hospital Road. TRS activists led by corporator P. Nagaraju tried to attack BJP activists, but, in vain.

BJP activists pelted stones at district headquarters hospital building for delaying post mortem and not allowing them into the hospital. Glasses of the doors were broken in the incident. BJP workers and leaders from adjacent mandals of Khammam reached and paid homage to Sai Ganesh.

A three-member team comprising BJP state general secretary Gujjula Premender Reddy, former MLCs Ramachandra Rao and Kapilavai Dileep Kumar rushed to Khammam and participated in the ‘Anthima Yatra’ of Sai Ganesh.
Sai Ganesh, 30, was a staunch BJP activist and was residing in Sarathinagar in Khammam with his grandmother. His family members fixed his marriage on May 4. However, he was sent to jail in a case related to a clash at Muthyalamma Gudi Centre in Khammam where TRS activists tried to place a cross by removing Ambedkar statue.

While being shifted to Hyderabad after his suicide bid, Sai Ganesh told media that about 16 cases had been filed against him. He said, “Cases one by one are being filed against me with the instance of the minister. All these cases are false one and I was asked to attend the police station every day.”

Sai Ganesh’s body was taken to Vaikuntadhamam in a procession along Wyra Road through collectorate, ZP Centre, Mayuri Centre and Jubilee Club. BJP activists raised slogans like ‘amar rahe Sai’ and ‘down- down minister Ajay Kumar’.
