Parties intensify campaign in Kovai, Pollachi on last day
Coimbatore: Candidates in Coimbatore and Pollachi Lok Sabha constituencies intensified their last day campaign despite the hot weather on Tuesday.
The BJP candidate CP Radhakrishnan contesting from Coimbatore constituency along with AIADMK functionaries, was involved in door-to-door campaign in suburbs of Coimbatore promising to rectify the water scarcity problem. He told the residents there as the third drinking water scheme is under process following the efforts taken by the Municipal Administration minister SP Velumani by utilizing the Kovundampalayam assembly constituency MLA fund of Rs 180 crore, there was still hope for the constituency.
While Kollywood actress Rohini on Tuesday campaigned at Thudiyaloor in favour of the CPI(M) candidate P.R. Natarajan running for Coimbatore constituency, the actor in her campaign emphasised on the fallout of Neet, unemployment and decline of industrial sector following GST implementation. The DMK functionaries including former minister Pongalur N.Palanisamy accompanied her in the campaign.
The Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Assembly Pollachi Jayaraman, who campaigned at Pollachi on Tuesday, went to door-to-door, seeking votes for AIADMK sitting MP C. Mahedran. In the campaign, he said during the Congress rule, 1.5 lakh Tamils were killed in Sri Lanka while the DMK leader M. Karunanidhi had remained a silent spectator then. He also pointed to the continuous power cuts during the earlier DMK period.
Pollachi Jayaraman said that the sitting AIADMK MP C. Mahedran had got lot of funds for Pollachi's development, including for infrastructure augmentation. The Pollachi Government Arts College, fixing a procurement price of Rs 95.21 for tender coconut and the efforts being taken for implementing Nallar and Anamalaiyar projects, were all due to the AIADMK MP's efforts, he added.
