TTV Dhinakaran appears before sessions court in defamation case

He also alleged that no ministers inspected the work relating to making the statue of Jayalalithaa.

Chennai: Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader TTV Dhinakaran appeared before the principal sessions court, Chennai, on Monday in connection with a defamation complaint registered against him by the state government for speaking against ministers.

While speaking to reporters on February 28, Dhinakaran, RK Nagar legislator, allegedly made derogatory remarks against ministers over setting up of statue of former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa.

He also alleged that no ministers inspected the work relating to making the statue of Jayalalithaa. This was published in newspaper on the next day. Citing this, a defamation complaint was filed against him in principal sessions court.

Recently, the principal judge directed Dhinakaran to appear before the court on April 16. When the matter came up for hearing at 10.30 am on Monday, a large number of party cadres have thronged the court hall. The Judge, after noticing the cadres, refused to hear the petition and adjourned it to June 28. However, the counsel for Dhinakaran replied that all the cadres have left the court hall. They also sought documents pertaining to the complaint. Later, the judge posted the matter to 1.30 p.m.

Subsequently, he appeared before the court at 1.30 pm. Following this, the court adjourned the matter to June 28 for further hearing.

Speaking to reporters, after coming out from court, he said the state government has been making attempt to introduce lottery tickets. He said he would disclose further details once he receives clinching evidences. He said Jayalalithaa had banned lottery tickets in the state. Dhinakaran said the party would not have any relation with communal forces.
