V Gauthaman roped in for Thoothukudi Lok Sabha polls

Accusing the AIADMK and the DMK of having close contact with Sterlite and had received funds from the company.

THOOTHUKUDI: A section of the anti-Sterlite activists in Thoothukudi plans to field Tamil film director, V Gauthaman in the Lok Sabha elections.

Confirming the plan, Gauthaman on Saturday said that he was ready to contest the election in Thoothukudi constituency and would declare his decision officially in the next few days after consulting with all the leaders of the anti-Sterlite movement in Thoothukudi.

He said it was his duty towards the people to highlight the issue in his electioneering as none of the mainstream parties in the contest including the DMK is highlighting the Sterlite issue in their campaign so far.

Director Gauthaman, who too is the founder of Tamil Perrarasu Katchi also clarified that his intention was not to shatter the votes in favour of or against any political alliance.

Accusing the AIADMK and the DMK of having close contact with Sterlite and had received funds from the company, Gauthaman, however, added that though the MDMK general secretary, Vaiko and the Left parties continued their fight against the copper major, it failed to show results.

Declaring that he would contest in the constituency to ensure justice for the people of Thoothukudi, where 13 lives were lost in the police firing last year, Gauthaman added, irrespective of the poll outcome, his struggle against Sterlite would con-tinue.
