Congress takes advantage of no-trust move
Hyderabad: The Congress is taking advantage of the YSRC and the TD’s decision to move a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led NDA government, and trying to consolidate anti-BJP forces.
Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the UPA, is paying special attention to the no-confidence motion and has taken a lead in this regard. She has told senior party leaders to consult with allies of the UPA as well as other anti-BJP parties to gather support in fav-our of the motion. Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Jyotoraditya are executing her orders.
Two days ago, Ms Gandhi hosted a dinner for the leaders of 20 political parties, including some that are not part of the UPA. The dinner was aimed at giving all anti-BJP forces a common platform.
Ever since the TD cut ties with the BJP and decided to move a no-confidence motion against the NDA government, several parties have extended their support to the move. Congress’ joining the movement has generated political heat in Delhi.
The BJP may use the TRS and the AIDMK to ensure that the motion does not come up for discussion.
Sumitra Mahajan, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, did not accept the no-confidence notice on Friday, saying that the House was not in order owing to protests by the TRS and the AIADMK.
If both parties continue their protests on Monday, the matter will not be taken up then either. The Speaker has made it clear that it will only be taken up only when the House is in order.
