BS Yeddyurappa, three others get bail

The court has granted interim bail to Mr Yeddyurappa, Preetham Gowda, Shivanna Gowda and Maramkal with conditions.

Bengaluru: A special court here on Saturday granted anticipatory bail to former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and three others in the audio clip row, which was made public by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy recently and caused uproar in the assembly.

The court has granted interim bail to Mr Yeddyurappa, Preetham Gowda, Shivanna Gowda and Maramkal with conditions. Each one of them has to pay Rs 1 lakh as bond, along with directions not to tamper with the evidence and not leave the jurisdictions without prior court permission.

Mr Yeddyurappa, who is also BJP state president, and others feared arrest following a complaint filed by Sharanagouda, son of Gurmitkal MLA Naganagouda Kandkur, over an alleged call made to him by Yeddyurappa.

The controversial audio clip allegedly contains a conversation between Mr Yeddyurappa and Sharanagouda. Mr Kumaraswamy alleged that Yeddyurappa was purportedly trying to lure a Janata Dal (Secular) MLA. The complaint was filed at Devadurga police station.

This comes after the Karnataka Assembly on February 14 witnessed uproar as BJP legislators walked up to the well of the House in protest against the formation of SIT to investigate the matter.

The state government has constituted the SIT to probe the incident.
