SC should take suo motu case against PM Modi, says Sitaram Yechury
Thiruvananthapuram: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the LDF Government and the CPM calling their stand on Sabarimala 'shameless', the party central leadership has hit out against him.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the Supreme Court should take a case suo motu as Modi's statement was against the LDF Government's decision to comply with the apex court decision.
The CPM politburo said the PM's statement was atrocious and highly condemnable. He is admonishing an elected Government for implementing the judgment of the Supreme Court.
Mr. Modi forgot that he had taken oath on the Constitution of India and he spoke as an RSS pracharak and not as the Prime Minister. His statement constitutes a direct assault on the Indian Constitution and the Supreme Court.
Modi's statement has dangerous implications for the future as it means that any Supreme Court judgment which does not suit the interests of the BJP and RSS will be defied and a Government seeking to implement it will be attacked by them. In the history of independent India this is an unprecedented situation.
All those who subscribe to the Constitution and secular democratic values will condemn the stand of the Prime Minister.
