Chennai: Work is underway for the global investor's summit and world Tamil conference. Officials have begun the preliminary works for the two-mega events, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said on Tuesday.

Addressing reporters here at Chennai international airport, Panneerselvam said that the state was on the job with regard to two international events. In case of global investors meet the state officials have already started visiting foreign countries to woo investors, he said. The state is on the job and expects the official information shortly, he said.

When contacted, minister for Tamil culture and archaeology Ma Foi Pandaiarajan said that the state was in talks with international Tamil sangams and the International Association of Tamil Research (IATR) based in Malaysia. IATR is the official forum that conducts World Tamil Conference and the state is in touch with the forum for the gala event. IATR will take a final call fixing the venue and time and the state will extend the logistical support and sponsor the Tamil scholars and researchers if the event is organised in foreign countries. Till now the event is not organised in North America and a Tamil Sangam group wants to organise the event at Annamalai University in Chidambaram. All these issues will be taken up with the IATR next week.

“By this weekend, I am visiting the US and Canada to coordinate with the Tamil speaking audience and will hold discussions the with scholars focused on Tamil research, the minister said.

Tamil Nadu had organised the World Tamil Conference thrice in the past (1968, 1981 and 1995). In 2010, IATR denied permission to the Tamil Nadu government to organise the event in Coimbatore due to short notice by the TN government.
