Karnataka: BJP guns for Roshan Baig after notice from ED

Bengaluru: The state unit of BJP on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to sack urban development minister R Roshan Baig in case the latter refuses to quit in the wake of a notice served by the Enforcement Directorate on his son, Ruman Roshan Baig, for alleged violation of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Former state president and MP, Pralhad Joshi, told the media here that Mr. Baig was also allegedly involved in severe financial irregularities, and therefore should quit the ministry.

On earlier occasions, too, the state unit demanded Mr Baig's resignation for his derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At a public meeting in his Assembly constituency, Mr. Baig used abusive language while speaking about Mr. Modi. Later, the BJP demanded his resignation. Leaders of ruling Congress too had chided the minister for using unparliamentary language against Mr. Modi.

Baig confirms notice from ED to son on violations
Urban development minister Roshan Baig on Tuesday confirmed that his son has received a notice from the Enforcement Directorate, and said he was a law abiding citizen and will respond to it. Yesterday when the media reports came, we had not got the notice yet," Mr Baig told reporters here. Last evening, his son got the notice, he said. "We are talking to auditor, we will respond to it," Baig said. The Urban Development minister said, "I will follow the law of the land, we don't violate law....we will answer it." The ED had yesterday issued notice to Baig's son Ruman Baig in a case of alleged violation under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). It is alleged that Ruman Enterprises Pvt Ltd, which is involved in providing business services had received unaccounted-for funds from an UAE based firm.
