CPI secretary Kanam Rajendran slams bid to privatise HLL

Demonetisation and GST have wrecked the country's financial position: Kanam Rajendran.

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI secretary Kanam Rajendran has demanded that the Legislative Assembly should intervene in the issue of privatisation of HLL Lifecare Ltd. Kanam was addressing the 30th day relay satyagraha organised by Save HLL Forum employees against the BJP Government's proposed decision to disinvest the mini ratna PSU.

Kanam demanded that the Kerala Assembly should come out with a unanimous resolution against the BJP Government’s decision for disinvestment of HLL Lifecare of its 295 shares. He alleged that ever since the Modi Government had come to power, the BJP has been trying to sell the successful PSU’s to bridge the fiscal deficit.

“The BJP Government has been trying to sell Cochin Shipyard, Hindustan Newsprint, FACT, BEML LTD and almost all the PSU’s in Kerala. Demonetisation and GST have wrecked the country’s financial position”, said Kanam.

Save HLL Forum has decided to protest in front of their corporate office at Poojappura here on January 18 which would see all the trade union organisations taking part in it. INTUC State president R. Chandrasekharan and AITUC leader K. P. Rajendran will also be attending the protest meeting in front of the corporate office.

On Monday, the top level management of HLL Lifecare Ltd had convened a meeting and demanded before the trade union representatives that they should call off the 30 day-old relay satyagraha. But the protestors maintained that they would not call off their protest until the BJP Government withdrew its decision for disinvestment.

“Even though the employees have been protesting against the disinvestment move, production has not been affected. This actually shows the commitment of the employees towards the company”, said a trade union representative of Save HLL Forum to DC.
